Happy 25th Birthday Cafe Pesto Kawaihae Harbor!
May 5, 2013 marks Cafe Pesto Kawaihae Harbor’s 25th Birthday! 25 years ago in 1988 we first opened our doors in the quaint harbor town of Kawaihae as a small take-out pizzeria. Fast forward to today and Cafe Pesto is an award winning dining establishment.
Here is a warm-hearted message from owner David Palmer:
“Aloha, I am David Palmer, proud owner of both Cafe Pesto Kawaihae and Hilo Bay. This month marks the 25th anniversary of our Kawaihae restaurant. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have supported our efforts to provide locally sourced, fresh Island cuisine using the bounty provided by our Big Island farmers, ranchers and fisherman to whom much is owed. Before there was Roy’s or a Merriman’s, there was -We’re Talking Pizza aka Cafe Pesto Kawaihae serving creative, organic, and locally sustainable dishes.
Special thanks are due to Michael, Jocelyn, Moki, and Kellie and all those employees who have made us the benchmark in top rated restaurants. First and foremost, however, it is our dear customers – locals and tourists alike, who have honored us with their ongoing patronage these past 25 years. Mahalo”

Local Hawaii Farmers We Love: Hester Farms
Sokha and her husband, Ellis, have innovated their 30-acre growing space a mile above Pahala (in the southern Ka’u District), into a farm that offers such a diversity – nothing seems impossible. At any given time they may be harvesting 30 to 35 different crops including peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, salad greens and more.
They continue to creatively work their way through a variety of not the best growing conditions: uneven land, rocky soil, weather conditions – to bring to their markets the most flavorful and eye-popping vegetables.
We love including their fresh veggies in as many of our dishes as we can.
Café Pesto named 2013 OpenTable Diners’ Choice List
We’re thrilled that you, our Café Pesto diners, have voted us onto the 2013 OpenTable Diner’s Choice List. The Diners’ Choice lists are created by the feedback that OpenTable.com receives from diners who book through OpenTable and are marked as seated. OpenTable emails diners and asks them to complete a Dining Feedback Form. The results of the feedback helps create the Diners’ Choice List. Read More

Here at Cafe Pesto we LOVE using local ingredients!
